January 24, 2018 -- Melbourne, Australia
Roger faced an always talented and dangerous Tomas Berdych last night in his Quarterfinal match.
With 19 career wins already over Berdych, Roger looked a bit bothered as the match began and quickly went down. The Swiss player settled in however and pushed the 1st set to a breaker, which he won and then proceeded in routine fashion winning the match 7-6(1), 6-3, 6-4.
The semifinals are next for Roger where he will face 21-year-old Hyeon Chung where they will battle for a spot in the Finals.
With the top ATP players out of this year's Australian Open, Roger remains the highest seed left and continues to have a positive outlook on the tournament as he advances to the semifinals.
“I'm very excited to play Chung, I thought he played an incredible match against Novak (Djokovic),” he said. “I think it's an interesting match for me. I'll definitely have to look into how I need to play against him because he has some great qualities, especially defensively, like Novak has. Right now I couldn't tell you how I need to play him. One thing I know is I'm going to be playing aggressive. I don't know how I'm going to do that exactly yet.”
