Roger wins Mercedes Cup; Back at No. 1
June 18, 2018 -- Stuttgart, Germany
Roger solidified his number 1 ranking on the ATP Tour after reaching the Mercedes Cup Final against, Milos Raonic.
Going into the final with that added confidence, Roger took on the big hitting Canadian. With only one break of serve going to Roger throughout the whole match, both players served strong, but Roger maintained the edge. He beat him 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) in the final giving him his 98th Tour title.
"I played very well throughout the tournament, it is a great comeback for me. I am so happy to have won," said Roger. "I was hoping to play a couple matches here but I have played four and won them all. The last few have been very good. I hope I keep it up at Halle and Wimbledon. It will give me a boost as well being back at world number one."
Roger will be in Halle next week, competing for his 10th title there.
