A day after his Birthday, Roger looked near flawless in his first round match against Canada's Peter Polansky.
Swinging freely, he jumped to a quick start and didn't look back as he won 6-2, 6-1. He lost just 3 points on serve and improves to 32-2 this year. He will face David Fererr in the next round.
August 1st, 2017 -- Montreal, Canada
With 19 Grand Slam titles under his belt, Roger announced today he will be making his way back to the Rogers Cup to compete for the title this year in Montreal, Canada.
This will be the Swiss Maestro's first appearance at the Rogers Cup since 2011 and he will not only be seeking his third Rogers Cup title but also celebrating his Birthday next week in Montreal.
“I’m happy to be coming back to Montreal as I have not had a chance to play there for many years,” said Federer. “This 2017 season has been very exciting and I am really looking forward to being back out on the court on the ATP Tour.”
After winning his 8th Wimbledon Title this past weekend, Roger now leads the count in the Open Era for the most titles won at The All England Club.
July 16, 2017 -- Wimbledon, England
Roger continued to make 2017 a dream come true as he captured his 8th Wimbledon at the All England Club. In his 11th Wimbledon Final, he dazzled spectators with his impressive play against Marin Clilic.
Having taken the clay season off, the Swiss Maestro didn't lose a single set en route to his victory. Responding to any adversity today and through out the tournament, Roger played steady to defeat the emotional Croatian, who was visibly not 100% and took two injury time outs. Roger clinched the win 6-3, 6-1, 6-4.
He becomes the oldest man in the Open era to win Wimbledon at 35 years old. He also now has the most Wimbledon titles at 8 and now has 19 Grand Slam titles. Roger's ranking will also improve to number 3 next week.
"It’s magical, I can’t believe it yet. It’s too much, really. It’s disbelief that I can achieve such heights. I wasn’t sure if I’d be in a final again after last year...But I kept believing and if you believe you can go a long way in your life. Here I am with an eighth title, it’s fantastic."
July 14, 2017 -- Wimbledon, England
The seven time Wimbledon Champion will play in his 11th final at Wimbledon on Sunday after a solid showing in today's semifinal match against Tomas Berdych.
Roger was challenged through out the 3-set match as Berdych stayed close forcing two of the sets to go to tiebreakers. The Swiss Maestro used his serve to help get him out of tight spots and closed out the win 7-6(6), 7-6(3), 6-4.
“I was able to come up with the goods when it mattered...I played good in the 'breakers...I never played with any sense of panic, which is so important when it gets to crunch time,” he said, who saved five of six break points.
Roger will face Marin Cilic in Sunday's Final at the All England Club. The two have played 7 times and Roger leads the head-to-head 6-1, most recently beating him in last year's Quarterfinal match at Wimbledon. If Roger comes away with the title, he will move up to number 3 in the ATP rankings.
