January 16, 2018 -- Melbourne, Australia

Roger took to the court today in front of an electric crowd for his first round match at the Australian Open against Briton Aljaz Bedene.

The 5-time Australian Open Champion looked to be on his game as he wrapped up a victory in just 99 minutes defeating the Slovenian. Roger was happy with his play and looking forward to what the tournament will bring.

"I am hoping for another good year," he said. "I am not sure it will go that well because last year went so well and I'm a year older, Rafa's looking in tip-top shape and others guys are coming back."

Next up for Roger will be Jan-Lennard Struff.

"Last year was a fairytale and I can't control everything. Last year could be my favorite year of my career but I am hoping to stay healthy, give myself chances and play my very best in the big matches like last year."
