January 18, 2018 -- Melbourne, Australia

Playing in front of a packed stadium during Wednesday's night session, Roger stepped into the 3rd round after defeating Jan-Lennard Struff.

The German came out aggressive and going for broke, but Roger's steady game and play earned him a 6-4, 6-4, 7-6(4) victory.

The defending champion was able to rely on his solid serving to hold while he was able to take advantage of a few opportunities to break to take control of the match.

"I knew he was going to go for his shots, it's a question of protecting your own serve as well as you can, then try to get a break. I thought it was a good match, I enjoyed it."

Roger will face Frenchman, Richard Gasquet, in his third round match.
