May 16, 2019 -- Rome, Italy After a day and a half of rain in Rome, Roger found himself facing two opponents on Thursday. First up for the Swiss star was Joao Sousa. Taking to the courts in Rome for the first time since 2016, Roger did what he needed to do to get a win under his belt and advance to his second match of the day. Later in the evening, he took on the always talented, Borna Coric. Coric, who was playing in his first match of the day, looked fresh and took the court ready to take out the third seed. Coric quickly raced to a lead and won the first set 6-2. Roger let the crowd help him energize him and was able to take the second set. It went to a third, where both players seemed to be pressured to make something happen. Reaching a tiebreak in the third, Roger fought off two match points to create some opportunities for himself. Clinching the match 2-6, 6-4, 7-6(7), Roger came away victorious and will play either Fabio Fognini or Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Quarterfinals.
