July 3, 2021 -- London, UK

The 8-time Wimbledon Champion took to the court on the middle Saturday against the highest ranked player left in the draw, Cameron Norrie, leaving the winner with entry to week two of play at the All England Lawn Tennis Club.

Despite a slight hiccup in the match, Roger's experience and play earned him the win 6-4, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 in two hours and 35 minutes on Centre Court. And with that victory, Roger earned his 1,250th career match win.

“I’m super relieved as it was a tough battle,” he said in an on-court interview. “I was so close to serving it out in the third set and I thought he played excellent today. I think I kept a high-level of play, but he did well to break me at the end of the third set. Overall, I can be very happy with the way I played.”

He will take on Lorenzo Sonego in the next round.
