Roger needed just 3-sets to book his spot in the Wimbledon Quarterfinals today. Facing the always tricky Lorenzo Sonego on Manic Monday , the Swiss Maestro navigated his Round of 16 match (complete with a rain delay) like a seasoned professional and won 7-5, 6-4, 6-2. This win puts Roger into his 18th Quarterfinal in Wimbledon and 58th Career Grand Slam Quarterfinal appearance. At 39 years old, this milestone makes him the oldest quarterfinalist in the Open Era.
“I’m extremely happy. Tricky conditions inside and outside against Lorenzo, always dangerous,” Roger said. “But I felt like after that first set, I was able to control things. It was a great match. I couldn’t be more excited to be in the quarters. It’s a big moment and I’m very, very happy.”
