ROGER FEDERER NEWS
June 23, 2019 -- Halle, Germany
Roger won his 10th title in Halle today. Which normally signifies only positives for the Swiss as he makes his way to Wimbledon next.
It wasn't easy as he faced David Goffin, but Roger relied on some strong serving to pull him out of any tough situations and won the match 7-6(2), 6-1.
This is the first time Roger has won 10 titles at any one tournament. Only Rafael Nadal has accomplished the same feat in the Open era.
Roger also now has 102 ATP Tour Titles under his belt and is creeping up to Jimmy Connors 109.
After the match, the Swiss Star said, "Every time I’ve won in Halle, I went on to play really well at Wimbledon. It’s never a guarantee of course, but I’ve been on the Tour for long enough to know what it means," he said. "Most important is I know I’m injury-free. I’m going to have a couple of days off I guess and then get ready once I’m going to be at Wimbledon practising again. But for now I’m going to enjoy this one, rest up a little bit, and then look forward to the rest."
June 7, 2019 -- Paris, France
Roger faced off against his long-time rival, Rafael Nadal, today in the semifinals of the French Open. Determined to take it to the Spanish player, Roger went into this match never beating Rafa at Roland Garros. In their 39th career meeting, the conditions were not ideal as it was blustery and stormy, making it even harder to get a ball past Rafa.
While Roger did not play bad and had his chances, he just couldn't get a set from the King of Clay and was defeated 6-3, 6-4, 6-2.
"He makes you feel uncomfortable the way he defends the court and plays on clay. There is nobody who even plays remotely close to him," said Roger. "I don't even know who I need to go search for to go practice with somebody who plays like him. It's just amazing how he plays from deep and then is able to bounce back and forth from the baseline."
