October 28, 2018 -- Basel, Switzerland On Sunday in front of a hometown crowd, Roger won his 99th career title and won the Swiss Indoors Basel for the 9th time. Having not played his best all week, Roger faced a player having one of the best tournaments of his career, Marius Copil, in the final match. The Romanian showed up for battle and took it to Roger early, but the Swiss Star proved his experience to reign supreme as he forced the first set to a tie-breaker and managed to capture the match 7-6(5), 6-4. "To come through and win again here in my hometown, never knowing if this might be your last time that you had the opportunity to play a final, maybe win for the last time here in my city, it obviously means a lot to me and it becomes very emotional," said Roger. Roger now has collected 4 titles this year and is just one title away from 100. “This win here in Basel means the world to me. It makes me so happy to win in front of my home crowd and make them happy in a way. It was a fantastic week.”

October 26th, 2018 -- Basel, Swizterland Finding himself against the always consistent Gilles Simon, Roger battled for just over two and a half hours to earn his spot into the Semifinals in Basel. With yet another slower start, Simon took advantage and quickly took the lead. However, the Swiss star dug in and started making more balls, winning the longer points and coming to the net to fight back and take the first set in a one-sided tiebreak. Simon stayed strong in the second and forced the match to a deciding third set. While he wasn't playing his best, Roger did what he needed to pull of the win and extend his winning streak. The score was 7-6(1), 4-6, 6-4. "It's an absolute pleasure playing on home soil with the crowd supporting me so much. I think they felt like I was in danger, and it was nice that they were there every step of the way." He faces Next Gen player, Daniil Medvedev, in the semifinals.

October 25th, 2018 -- Basel, Switzerland

 

Eight-time Swiss Indoor Champion scored another win today against Jan-Lennard Struff. Needing just two sets, Roger won the match 6-3, 7-5 and now has a 10-0 set record against the German.

 

"I was ready for Struff to come out and swing. I didn't know how aggressive he was going to play or how much serve and volley he was going to do. But unfortunately, I didn't have the best first two service games. But he also played well, I must say. He connected well, he came out with a plan and it worked for him," Roger said. "I'm happy that I improved after a rocky, slow start today, to play well after that. I think the crowd was really into it. They were excited that I came back from being a break down. I'm excited for the next round, so I'm actually quite happy how I'm playing right now."

 

Roger has now won 17 matches in a row in Basel. He is two matches away from his 14th final in his hometown tournament.

October 23, 2018 -- Basel, Switzerland

 

Roger took the court for his first round in his hometown tournament today against Filip Krajinovic. The crowd was not disappointed as the young Serbian went toe to toe with the 37-year old Swiss star. While Roger didn't feel like he played his best, he hung on and won the match 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.

 

"I served bad, I did not find angles and lines in the correct way. I will have to improve," he said. 

 

He will face Jan-Lennard Struff in the next round of the Swiss Indoors tournament.

 

Roger has won this tournament 8 times and has a 66-9 record here. He has reached the final in 11 straight appearances (2006-2015, 2017). Out of his 17 main draw appearances, Roger has made 13 finals, holding an 8-5 record. He has a 15-match winning streak in Basel since his last loss which was in 2013 to Juan Martin del Potro in the final. Roger is 39-7 this season with three titles, he has been in five finals.

October 14, 2018 -- Shanghai, China

 

Just one match away from defending his title, Roger was taken out by Borna Coric, who played one of the best matches of his career on Saturday. 

 

Feeling no pressure to face the Swiss star, Coric came out swinging big and didn't allow Roger any break point opportunities. That paired with a fast court and getting broken in the beginning of both sets was tough to combat. The young Croatian won the match 6-4, 6-4. 

 

"He had more punch on the ball. He served better," Roger said. "I got off to a bad start in both sets. That combination is plenty here in Shanghai with fast conditions."
