June 2, 2019 -- Paris, France Roger had a routine win on Sunday as he faced Leonardo Mayer in the Round of 16. In one of the shorter matches, he broke 5 times and was never in any danger as he won 6-2, 6-3, 6-2. Next, he faces countryman, Stan Wawrinka, who found himself in an epic 5-set battle to reach the Quarterfinals.
May 31, 2019 -- Paris, France The Swiss veteran faced off against 20-year old, NextGen player, Casper Ruud, today in the third round. Going into the match, Roger mentioned he was more familiar with Ruud's father, Christian, rather than his son as they played together on tour from 1999-2001. While Ruud stayed fairly close with Roger, he just didn't have enough experience to hurt the 20-time Grand Slam Champion. Roger won the match 6-3, 6-1, 7-6(8) and marches on to the 4th round. This win means Roger (at 37 years and 305 days old) has set yet another record, becoming the oldest man to make the fourth round at the French Open since Nicola Pietrangeli in 1972.
May 29, 2019 -- Paris, France Facing the German qualifier, Oscar Otte, Roger earned his 67th win in Paris and finds himself in the 3rd round at Roland Garros. Winning the match 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 the win was just what the Swiss Star needed to continue to gain confidence as he advanced into the draw as he finds himself competing 20 years after his first French Open. Roger faces Casper Ruud in the next round.
May 26, 2019 -- Paris, FR For the first time in four years, 20-time Grand Slam winner, Roger Federer, took to the courts at Roland Garros. An excited crowd greeted the Swiss Maestro and enjoyed watching him masterfully dictate in his first round. Looking comfortable and completely in control, Roger won 6-2, 6-4, 6-4. Next, he will face a lucky loser ranked just inside the top 150 in his next round. "I knew I can play very well on clay and I am very happy I did it in straight sets today," Roger said. "I missed the French crowd so thanks for the warm welcome today."
May 17, 2019 -- Rome, Italy After playing two matches back to back on Thursday, one of which to a tiebreak in the third, Roger woke up Friday not feeling 100% physically due to an injury to his right leg. He withdrew in his Quarterfinal match, which means Stefanos Tsitsipas automatically advances to the semifinals. “I am disappointed that I will not be able to compete today. I am not 100 per cent physically and after consultation with my team, it was determined that I not play. Rome has always been one of my favorite cities to visit, and I hope to be back next year,” Roger said. The Swiss star is scheduled to be at Roland Garros next, which begins on May 26th. It will be his first time back on the French Open courts since 2015.
