ROGER FEDERER NEWS

May 16, 2019 -- Rome, Italy After a day and a half of rain in Rome, Roger found himself facing two opponents on Thursday. First up for the Swiss star was Joao Sousa. Taking to the courts in Rome for the first time since 2016, Roger did what he needed to do to get a win under his belt and advance to his second match of the day. Later in the evening, he took on the always talented, Borna Coric. Coric, who was playing in his first match of the day, looked fresh and took the court ready to take out the third seed. Coric quickly raced to a lead and won the first set 6-2. Roger let the crowd help him energize him and was able to take the second set. It went to a third, where both players seemed to be pressured to make something happen. Reaching a tiebreak in the third, Roger fought off two match points to create some opportunities for himself. Clinching the match 2-6, 6-4, 7-6(7), Roger came away victorious and will play either Fabio Fognini or Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Quarterfinals.
May 11, 2019 -- Madrid, Spain Despite the loss to one of the most talented players on tour, Roger is feeling confident on clay at the moment. The 20-time Grand Slam Champion started strong and kept his level high against Dominic Thiem in the Quarterfinals at Madrid. The Austrian fought off match points to take the match 3-6, 7-6(11), 6-4. A day later, Roger took to social media to announce he will be making his way to Italy next week to compete. Roger hasn't played in Rome since 2016 and will be excited to take the court here on clay and use it for more experience before this year's French Open.

May 9, 2019 -- Madrid, Spain

Roger took the court firing on all cylinders today in Madrid.

Facing the always electrifying, Gael Monfils, the Swiss Star quickly won the first set without dropping a game. However, Monfils wasn't going to let the match go that easily. He battled back to take the second set and push it to three.

The third set proved to be a fight til the end as well. Fighting off match points to push it to a thrilling decisive tie-breaker, we saw some classic Roger shot making as he decisively took the breaker to win 6-0, 4-6, 7-6(3). This goes down as his 1,200th match win!

His next round will not be easy as he faces Dominic Thiem who has proven to always be dangerous and most recently beat Roger in the finals at the BNP Paribas Open.

May 7, 2019 -- Madrid, Spain Walking onto a clay court to compete for the first time in two years, Roger started his Madrid campaign today against French veteran, Richard Gasquet. Looking comfortable on the clay, Roger raced to a quick victory and needed less than an hour to win 6-2, 6-3. He finished with 28 winners and 7 aces and looked strong as he dominated the shorter points. "I grew up on this surface, so I feel comfortable about that, but I think richard was also maybe a little bit hurt from his match yesterday." As the fourth seed and a 3-time Champion in Madrid, he will have a day off and either play Gael Monfils or Marton Fucsovics next.

Roger continues to break records as the 37-year old remains strong in his career.

This past week, he solidified 101 Career Titles after winning the Miami Open. Jimmy Connors is the only player who has the Swiss Star beat with 109 titles to his name.

Let's take a closer look at some of the numbers and accomplishments to get to 101.

While we don't always see Roger on the doubles court, 8 of these titles have been due to Doubles Victories.

He has won titles in 19 different countries at 31 different tournaments.

Roger has 20 Grand Slams titles and 27 ATP Masters 1000 titles.

He has won both Basel and Halle 9 times; has won Wimbledon and Dubai 8 times; has won Cincinnati 7 times and has 7 Australian Open titles.

57 of his wins in the finals have been against top 10 players.

67 of these titles resulted in straight set wins.

His first title came in 2001 when he was ranked 27 and just 19 years old.

69 of these titles came from hard court tournaments; 18 were won on grass; 11 won on clay and just 2 won on carpet.

Since turning 30, Roger has won 33 of those titles, proving age and experience sometimes do prevail.

This year, Roger has already captured 2 titles (Dubai and Miami).

Roger will take a couple weeks to recharge his batteries and will be making an appearance during clay court season, with his next tournament to be Madrid!

Stay tuned as it will be exciting to watch as his year unfolds and see how many more records the Swiss Maestro can break in 2019.
